Dr. Joe Rotella is chief medical officer for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) and founder of the consulting company CatalystHPM. He is a board-certified internal medicine physician, hospice and palliative medicine specialist and hospice medical director.
During his time at AAHPM, his work has included collaboration on Measuring What Matters, Choosing Wisely and the Hospice Medical Director Manual. He chairs the Burnout and Resiliency Work Group for the Council of Medical Specialty Societies and is the organization’s representative to the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience.
Rotella previously served as chief medical officer for Hosparus, a large community-based hospice in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1999-2014.
He received his bachelor’s degree in English from Harvard University and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He also holds an MBA from the University of Louisville.
