Lucius “Luke” Lampton, MD, practices family medicine in Magnolia, Mississippi, and is chief of staff and medical director of Beacham Memorial Hospital. He also serves as medical director of the Compassus program serving McComb, Mississippi.

Dr. Lampton is extraordinarily active in the community. He currently serves as chairman of the Mississippi State Board of Health, is a clinical associate professor at Tulane Medical School and is part of the clinical faculty for the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine. A fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Lampton is secretary of the South Central Medical Society and a past president of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians. He also helped establish and serves on the legislative commission of the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program.

For his leadership in continuing to raise industry benchmarks for quality hospice care, Dr. Lampton received the R. Sean Morrison, M.D. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Hospice Physician Leadership from Compassus.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Lampton has served on Momentum Mississippi, an initiative focusing on the state’s long-term economic strategy, and on Governor Barbour’s Transition Team. Passionate about historic preservation, he is president of the Foundation of Mississippi History and recipient of a resolution of merit from the Mississippi Historical Society. He serves on boards for the South Pike School District, the Mississippi School Board Association, the Mississippi School of the Arts Foundation and the Center for Southern Culture at Ole Miss.

Since 1997, Dr. Lampton has served as editor and publisher of the award-winning Magnolia Gazette. His articles and book reviews have appeared in various publications, from the Mark Twain Journal to the Journal of Mississippi History, and his work has been featured on televised programs such as the BBC, History Channel, CSPAN, Mississippi ETV and Turner South.
